Description

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus retain the Retina HD display found on the iPhone 7, but add True Tone technology, allowing for automatic display adjustments based on ambient lighting. They can play HDR10 and Dolby Vision content despite not having an HDR-ready display, upconverting HDR content to fit the display while also improving dynamic range, contrast, and color gamut.

The iPhone 8 features a 12MP autofocus camera with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization capable of capturing 4K video at 24, 30, or 60 frames per second, or 1080p video at 30, 60, 120, or 240 frames per second. The iPhone 8 Plus upgrades the main camera to a wide-angle lens with up to 10x digital zoom or 2x optical zoom, and has a second telephoto lens similar to the iPhone 7 Plus, but with improved depth of field and Portrait mode lighting effects. Both models have a 7MP front-facing camera with a ƒ/2.2 aperture capable of capturing 1080p video at 30 frames per second and 720p video at 240 frames per second, along with face detection and high dynamic range.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus feature Apple's A11 Bionic, a six-core processor that features two performance cores that are 25 percent faster than the A10 Fusion processor in the previous generation of iPhones, and four efficiency cores that are 70 percent faster than before. The phones also feature an Apple-designed triple-graphics processing unit (GPU) that's 30 percent faster than the A10 Fusion SoC in the iPhone 7. The phones retain the second-generation Touch ID introduced in the iPhone 6s. Both models come in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options, and are offered in silver, gold, space gray, and red color options.

The phones have glass backs instead of the full aluminum casing found on previous models, allowing for the use of standard Qi wireless charging. The phones have an IP67 rating for water resistance.
